⚡ Quickstart Guide
You can run your first AI contract review in under 60 seconds. Here's how:
1
Create your account. Click "Start Free Trial" on the website. No credit card required. Your 14-day trial gives you full access to all 11 tools.
2
Upload or paste a contract. Go to Review Contract → drop your PDF or Word file, or paste the text. Any contract type works.
3
Click "Analyze Contract." In 20–60 seconds you'll get a full risk report: overall risk level, every flagged clause with plain-English explanation, missing terms, and recommended fixes.
4
Save to your library. The contract is automatically saved when you upload it. From the library you can set status, assign it to a matter, track expiry dates, and run any tool on it with one click.
5
Try the Redline tool. Use the same contract to generate inline strikethroughs and replacement language — then export directly to a Word document.
Tip: Each tool loads your last-used contract automatically. You don't need to re-upload the same file for every analysis.
What counts as one AI analysis?
Each use of Review, Redline, Draft, Q&A, Explain, Compare, Extract, or Bulk Review consumes one AI analysis from your monthly plan. Uploading files, saving to your library, viewing saved contracts, and exporting PDFs or Word documents are all free and do not count toward your limit.
Keyboard shortcuts
Ctrl+Enter (or ⌘+Enter on Mac) — submit analysis in Review and Explain tools
Enter — send a message in the Q&A and Assistant panels
- Select any text on screen → 💬 Explain Selected button appears — instantly sends the selection to the Explain tool
- In Clause Library → Insert into Draft button — appends clause directly into the current draft result with attribution
📚 Contract Library
The Contract Library is your central contract repository. Every file you upload is automatically saved to your library for instant access across all tools.
Contract Library organization
- Matters: Create matters (with client name) and assign contracts to them. Filter your library by matter.
- Status tracking: Set status per contract — Draft, In Review, Negotiating, Executed, Expired, or Archived.
- Expiry alerts: Add an expiry date and Contractus will surface contracts expiring in the next 30 days on your dashboard.
- Risk indicators: After a review, a colored dot appears next to the contract in your library (🔴 High, 🟡 Medium, 🟢 Low).
- Search: Type in the search bar above the matter filter to search by contract name or type.
- Bulk actions: Check multiple contracts (hover to reveal checkboxes) and bulk-set status, assign a matter, or delete.
Library limits by plan
- Trial: 20 contracts
- Lite: 20 contracts (1 seat, 200 AI analyses/month)
- Solo: 100 contracts (1 seat, 1,000 AI analyses/month)

📎 Clause Library
The Clause Library lets you save your firm's preferred fallback language and reuse it instantly across any draft or redline. It comes pre-loaded with 13 built-in clauses covering the most commonly negotiated contract provisions.
Built-in starter clauses
- Mutual Limitation of Liability (standard cap)
- Mutual Indemnification (balanced)
- IP Ownership — Work Made for Hire (vendor side)
- IP Carve-Out — Pre-Existing Materials (vendor side)
- Force Majeure — Balanced
- Dispute Resolution — AAA Arbitration
- Dispute Resolution — Court Only (no arbitration)
- Auto-Renewal with Notice Requirement
- Non-Solicitation of Employees (general)
- Confidentiality — Mutual Standard
- Non-Compete — California (§16600 void; trade secrets only)
- Non-Compete — Texas (enforceable format under §542.335)
- Payment Terms — Net 30 with Late Fees
Jurisdiction tagging
Every clause (built-in and saved) carries a jurisdiction tag — General, or a specific state. Filter the clause list by jurisdiction to instantly surface the right clause for a California employment matter vs. a Texas commercial deal.
Saving clauses
From the Redline result, click 📎 Save to Clause Library to save the current redline's insertion language. Or use + Add Clause in the Clause Library panel to add your own. Each saved clause includes: title, clause type, jurisdiction, original language (optional), your preferred fallback text, and notes.
Using clauses
From the Clause Library, you can: Copy Language (copies text to clipboard), Insert into Redline (appends to current redline result), or Insert into Draft (appends highlighted block to current draft). Usage count is tracked so you know which clauses your firm relies on most.
💳 Billing & Plans
How do I upgrade from a trial to a paid plan? ▼
Click your name/plan badge → Upgrade Plan. Lite ($149/month) and Solo ($300/month) upgrades are straightforward. Firm plans are priced at $800/month for 3 seats — you can add seats ($300/seat) from your account settings after upgrading. Payment is processed securely via Stripe. Your contract library is fully preserved on upgrade.
How do I cancel my subscription? ▼
From the app: click your name → Manage Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you'll retain full access until then. Your contract library data remains exportable for 30 days after cancellation.
Can I get a refund? ▼
Subscriptions are non-refundable except where required by law. If you're unsatisfied,
contact us within 7 days of your first charge and we'll review your situation. We want you to feel good about Contractus.
What happens if my payment fails? ▼
We'll retry the payment and email you. After 7 days of failed payment your account is downgraded to limited access, but your data is retained for 30 days. Update your billing details from Manage Subscription to restore access immediately.
Do AI analyses roll over month to month? ▼
No — unused AI analyses reset at the start of each billing cycle. They don't roll over. Referral bonus analyses (earned when a referral upgrades) do not expire and are used before your regular monthly limit.
🎁 Free Trial
Your 14-day trial includes all 11 tools, up to 200 AI analyses, and a library of 20 contracts. No credit card required.
The trial clock starts when you create your account. You'll receive email reminders at days 3, 7, and 13. At day 14, your account shifts to limited access — your library data is preserved for 30 days, giving you time to upgrade without losing anything.
Want more time? If you haven't had a chance to properly evaluate Contractus during your trial,
contact us and we'll extend your trial. We'd rather you evaluate properly than rush into a decision.
🏛 Team & Firms
The Firm plan ($800/month base) includes 3 attorney seats and 1,000 AI analyses per month. Add up to 17 additional seats at $300/seat/month, each adding 300 more analyses. Maximum 20 seats self-serve. For larger firms (20+ attorneys), contact us for custom pricing.

🔒 Your Data
Documents you upload for AI analysis are processed in memory and discarded after the analysis is returned. They are not stored on our servers unless you explicitly save them to your library.
Contracts you save to your library are stored encrypted at rest (AES-256) and associated with your account. You can export or delete them at any time.
Export your data
From your account modal: Account → Export My Data. Downloads a JSON file containing all your contracts, playbooks, matters, and account information.
Delete your account
From your account modal: Account → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm with your email address. Deletion is processed within 30 days. Billing records required by law are retained for 7 years.
See our Privacy Policy for full details on data handling.
⚖️ Bar Compliance
Contractus is an AI-assisted tool for use under attorney supervision. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. The supervising attorney is responsible for all work product.
Supervised AI use is explicitly permitted under ABA Formal Opinion 512 (2023) and guidance from multiple state bars. Contractus is designed to fit this supervised model — it surfaces issues and drafts language, and the attorney reviews, revises, and takes professional responsibility.
Key professional duties
- Rule 1.1 (Competence): Review all AI output for accuracy before relying on it
- Rule 1.6 (Confidentiality): Unsaved documents are discarded after analysis; Contractus does not retain client files
- Rule 5.1/5.3 (Supervision): You are responsible for the work product, exactly as if you had used any other drafting tool
